Château Vartely

Established 1996

Château Vartely is one of Moldova’s most recognised modern wineries, set in the Orhei region about 50 km north of Chișinău. It combines the latest vineyard and winemaking technology with a passion for wines of consistent, high quality – and has quickly become one of the emblematic names of Moldovan wine.

The story

  • 1996 – the winery first appears on the Moldovan market.
  • 2004 – the Château Vartely brand is launched, with the slogan “Wine with love to you”.
  • 2008 – a wine tourism complex opens at the estate, with villas, tasting rooms and a restaurant, welcoming visitors from around the world.

Did you know? The name Vartely comes from the Hungarian name for the town of Orhei – vár + hely, meaning “place of the fortress”.

Vineyards and terroir

Grapes come from the winery’s own vineyards in two of Moldova’s protected wine regions: IGP Codru in the centre of the country and IGP Valul lui Traian in the south. Their distinctive terroir gives the wines character and personality from vintage to vintage. The winery produces around 4.5 million bottles a year from both European and indigenous grape varieties.

Champions of Moldova’s native grapes

Château Vartely is a committed promoter of Moldova’s indigenous varieties at home and abroad – including Fetească Regală (Royal Maiden), Fetească Neagră (Black Maiden) and Rară Neagră (Rare Black).

Award-winning wines

Its wines have won medals at leading international competitions, including Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Mundus Vini, Vinalies Internationales, Decanter World Wine Awards, the International Wine & Spirit Competition and the International Wine Challenge.
