Alcohol Policy & Challenge 25
Our commitment
Wine Chateau Ltd operates a strict age-verification policy for every sale, collection and delivery of alcohol. We do not sell or supply alcohol to anyone under 18.
Age requirement for ordering
You must be aged 18 or over to order alcohol or book an event involving the service or tasting of alcohol. By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18, that the information you provide is accurate and that you are legally entitled to purchase the products or services ordered.
It is prohibited to purchase alcohol for, or arrange delivery to, anyone under 18. We may cancel or refuse an order where we reasonably suspect underage purchasing, proxy purchasing, false information, fraud or another unlawful transaction.
Challenge 25
We operate Challenge 25. Anyone who appears under 25 will be asked for accepted photographic ID proving they are aged 18 or over before alcohol is handed over. Alcohol will not be supplied if the required proof is not provided.
We accept only original, valid and in-date photographic identification:
- a passport;
- a UK photocard driving licence; or
- a proof-of-age card bearing the PASS hologram.
Photographs, screenshots or copies of identification are not accepted. The name or delivery details do not replace the requirement to provide acceptable identification.
Alcohol delivery
An adult aged 18 or over must be present to receive every delivery containing alcohol. The recipient may be required to show acceptable identification and sign for the delivery.
Alcohol will not be:
- left unattended or in a nominated safe place;
- handed to anyone under 18;
- handed over where acceptable identification is requested but unavailable, invalid or refused; or
- delivered where the driver reasonably believes that doing so would be unlawful or unsafe.
The person placing the order is responsible for ensuring that the intended recipient is aged 18 or over, is available to receive the delivery and can provide acceptable identification. A courier’s refusal applies to that delivery attempt and Wine Chateau will not require a driver to complete an unlawful or unsafe handover.
Collection from our shop
The person collecting an order must be aged 18 or over and may be asked for acceptable identification under Challenge 25. We may also request the order confirmation and evidence that the collector is authorised to collect the order. Alcohol will not be released if the required checks are not satisfied.
Events and tastings
Admission to events involving alcohol is restricted to adults aged 18 or over unless Wine Chateau has expressly stated otherwise for a particular non-alcohol activity. Challenge 25 checks may be carried out at entry and during the event. We may refuse admission or alcohol service where acceptable identification is unavailable or where refusal is reasonably necessary for legal, licensing or safety reasons.
Refused or failed age-verification delivery
If an order cannot be delivered or collected because these age-verification requirements are not met, the goods may be returned to Wine Chateau. Once returned and checked, we will refund the price of eligible goods. The original delivery charge and reasonable return or redelivery costs may be deducted where permitted by law. This does not affect rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Our right to refuse or cancel
Wine Chateau may refuse, suspend or cancel an order, collection, delivery or event admission where reasonably necessary to comply with licensing law, protect public safety, prevent fraud or enforce this policy. A payment or order confirmation does not require Wine Chateau to complete an unlawful supply of alcohol.
Responsible consumption
Please drink responsibly. For information, guidance and support, visit NHS alcohol advice and Drinkaware.
