Château Purcari
Established 1827
Château Purcari is one of Moldova’s most celebrated wine estates, in the IGP Ștefan Vodă region in the south-east of the country. Its wines have been poured at royal tables in Europe and today reach more than 25 countries.
Nearly two centuries of Purcari
- 1827 – a special decree established Purcari as the first specialised wine estate in Bessarabia.
- 1878 – its emblematic red, Negru de Purcari, won a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition.
- 2003 – a true rebirth, when Purcari became part of the Purcari Wineries Group led by Victor Bostan. Major investment in the vineyards, winery and sustainability followed, and the group has become Moldova’s largest exporter of bottled wine.
From royal tables to Decanter medals
Château Purcari is among the most awarded producers from Central and Eastern Europe at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London, and its wines are exported to more than 25 countries across Europe, North America and Asia.
One estate, many styles
- 1827 – the flagship range, named after the year Purcari was founded.
- Nocturne – hand-picked grapes harvested in the cool of the night to keep aromas and flavour intense.
- Limited Edition – new perspectives on well-known wines, blending innovation with tradition.
- Academia Purcari – Purcari’s most ambitious project: wines that express the identity of local grapes, made and aged in clay amphorae, with a short rest in oak.
- Cuvée de Purcari – sparkling wines made by the traditional method, with second fermentation in the bottle, created with French oenologist Jérôme Barret.
- Special editions – Vinohora pairs a native grape with an international one; Maluri de Prut blends Romanian Fetească Neagră with Moldovan Rară Neagră to celebrate 25 years of the “Bridge of Flowers” between Moldova and Romania; Freedom Blend unites Saperavi, Rară Neagră and Bastardo – the heart of Georgia, the terroir of Moldova and the free spirit of Ukraine.
- Sapiens – bold, unconventional wines inspired by human contradictions: not for everyone, but impossible to ignore.
