Carlevana

Established 1959

Carlevana is a modern winery in the heart of Moldova. It sits in the village of Merenii Noi, around 25 km from Chișinău, surrounded by centuries-old trees, and makes its wines from grapes grown in its own vineyards.

Since 1959

  • 1959 – the history of winemaking at Carlevana begins in Merenii Noi.
  • Today – a modern winery with up-to-date equipment and a team with international experience, producing more than 500,000 bottles a year.

Did you know? A black raven has lived in one of the old trees beside the winery for more than 20 years. Carlevana named one of its collection wines after it: Black Raven Cabernet Sauvignon 2002.

Vineyards and grapes

Carlevana’s own vineyards cover more than 151 hectares, planted with Rhein Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Pinot Noir. Its wines also showcase Moldova’s native grapes, such as Fetească Regală, Rară Neagră and Viorica.

Award-winning wines

Carlevana wines regularly win gold and silver medals at international competitions, including the Berliner Wein Trophy, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Asia Wine Trophy and Sélections Mondiales des Vins in Canada.

One winery, several ranges

  • Mereni – easy-drinking red and white blends, named after the winery’s home village.
  • Carlevana – single-variety wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Rhein Riesling, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • Raritet – the winery’s more distinctive wines, including Cuvée Blanc, an amber Orange Wine, Malbec, Rară Neagră and the Rubinus and Merlotage blends.
  • Collection wines – long-aged Cabernet Sauvignon from older vintages, released in limited numbers, plus rare sweet wines: an ice wine made from frozen Rhein Riesling and Ambrosia, made from late-harvest Chardonnay affected by noble rot.
